TORRANCE, Calif. -- Amid numerous recalls that directly contributed to a significant drop in sales this month, Toyota has seen yet another safety issue on one of its vehicle models this week.

The Toyota Prius, model years 2004 through 2009, has now been added to the list of models recalled to address the risk of floor mat entrapment of accelerator pedals -- an issue first reported on approximately 2.3 million vehicles in mid-January.

In addition, according to a report from BusinessWeek, Toyota has received 14 brake-related complaints about the most recent Prius model, since its introduction in May 2009.

On its Web site, Toyota worked to assure consumers and analysts that safety was of utmost concern to the automaker.

“Nothing is more important to us than the safety and reliability of the vehicles our customers drive. Since these issues first came to our attention, we have understood that the soonest possible action would be in the best interests of our customers and have acted accordingly. We are very grateful for the advice of all the government agencies involved and feel that through our handling of the recall we have a chance to regain the trust of our customers. We will continue to cooperate fully with NHTSA on all vehicle safety issues,” the statement reads.
