In a recent survey conducted by IMR, technicians were asked the following two questions: Generally speaking, what percentage of the parts you use are premium line parts? What percentage of the parts you use are second line parts?
For the second consecutive month, the percentage of premium line parts used in repairs in October has remained at 63 percent, which is the lowest level seen since the spring of 2008.
The use of second line parts dropped this month as well falling from 39.8 percent in September to 38 percent in October.
Comparing year-to-year, the use of premium line parts is down significantly again this month, falling from 71.42 percent in October 2008 to 63 percent in October 2009. However, second line parts has risen year-over-year, from 32 percent in October 2008 to 38 percent in October 2009.
Editor’s Note: The graph above reflects combined responses to the two questions and therefore does not equal 100 percent.
