MIDLAND, Mich. -- The 46th Northwood University International Auto Show this weekendwas a success for the students involved with the Aftermarket Studies Program. Despite the rainy weather, the show managed to draw a large crowd to the aftermarket and performance displays.
The completely student organized show featured more than 400 cars and booths for aftermarket companies including Roush, NGK and NAPA. Also, on display in front of the Sloan Family Building for Aftermarket Studies were more than 20 race cars and show cars.
The show has an estimated economic impact of $3.5 million on the local Midland, Mich., economy. Students did not receive payment or credit for their participation and more than 500 Northwood students participate from all curriculums.
The show began on Friday, Oct. 2 with a spirited panel discussion including John Washbish, vice president, Aftermarket Auto Parts Alliance; and Ryan LaFontaine, general manager, LaFontaine Automotive Group. The opening ceremony was attended by Robert Lutz, vice president of General Motors.
At left: Sophomore Travis Huisman displayed his 1969 Mustang in the lobby of the Sloan Family Building for Aftermarket Studies. "I've always been interested in cars, my dad got me into it at a young age," said Huisman. "I decided to come to Northwood because of the Aftermarket program and the good connections with the automotive industry."
