DETROIT -- After General Motors (GM) was left with 38 dealers that refused to sign wind-down agreements, the company has filed a motion in bankruptcy court seeking to reject contracts with the remaining dealers.

According to a report from the Detroit Free Press, all GM dealers that were not offered a participation agreement were offered wind-down agreements, which gave the dealer up to 16 months to close down the business and sell off existing inventory. The wind-downs are being paid for by the New GM.

About 4,100 dealers accepted agreement to continue as dealers with the new GM and of those that were offered wind-down agreements, only 38 have refused the offer. Now, GM is at the tail-end of its restructuring process with the expectation that it may emerge as a new company by the end of the week. The judge handling the bankruptcy case gave opponents of the plan until today to object. According to the Free Press, two groups have filed objections.
