TROY, Mich. -- Delphi Corp. today announced plans to sell its remaining brake and suspension business to BeijingWest Industries Co. The business employs approximately 3,000 people primarily located in Poland, China, Mexico, France and the United States.
The Chinese firm is acquiring all remaining equipment, property and intellectual property. Assignment and assumption of certain customer and supplier contracts will also transfer to BeijingWest. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Delphi said the brakes and suspension business is one of the non-core product lines that no longer fits into the company's future strategic framework and could become more profitable and competitive as stand-alone businesses or as part of another organization with the working capital to invest in and support these businesses.
The sale, which is part of Delphi’s ongoing reorganization plan, must be approved by the bankruptcy court. Delphi plans to request a hearing on the bidding process on April 23, and a hearing on May 21 to approve the sale. Delphi said it expects the sale to close during the fourth quarter of 2009.
