GASTONIA, N.C. -- As an extension of the brand’s extensive ties to NASCAR and its support of local racing, WIX Filters has joined Bill Elliott Racing in 2009 as a contingency sponsor of its driver development program.

“We are proud to create an alliance between our contingency sponsors and the hometown race track markets where there is resurgence to once again make heroes out of their local driving talent,” said Bill and Cindy Elliott, who launched their driver development program as an extension of Bill Elliott Racing in 2008. “Our team members will represent WIX Filters with integrity and family values. We are confident that this will be a winning partnership.”

Based on the principles of teamwork, strong work ethic and positive attitudes, the Bill Elliott Driver Development program aims to guide young drivers through a life in auto racing, while making them leaders on and off the track.

Drivers in the development program will climb through the ranks of asphalt racing, starting in the Legends Racing Series and move up to Pro Late Model stock cars, including the Georgia Asphalt Series (GAS) and ASA Racing, and on to Super Late Models in series such as the Champion Racing Association (CRA) Super Series. From there they will progress to the ARCA RE/MAX and other series that are age and talent specific. To encourage strong communication and clear feedback, drivers also will intermittently run dirt Late Models that reinforce car control and a thorough understanding of the feel of the car.

“WIX is a dedicated supporter of motorsports at all levels, from NASCAR Sprint Cup racing to local dirt tracks,” said Jeff Blocher, brand manager for WIX Filters. “In addition to our NASCAR sponsorships, WIX supports local race teams through our Team WIX racing program, which provides member race teams with hefty rebates on the purchase of WIX racing products and free team gear.”

WIX Filters became an industrial member of NASCAR in 1968, and through its efforts during the past 40 years, WIX has earned the title of #1 Filter in NASCAR. In fact, WIX Filters were protecting the engines of the last nine Sprint Cup Champions, and nine of last year’s Chase drivers. Additionally, WIX Filters maintains a 16-year partnership with Joe Gibbs Racing as the Official Filters of JGR.
