With all the news of economic turmoil in the U.S. today, there has been one small bright spot for American drivers. The price of gas in the U.S. has been dropping for 67 days in a row.

Gas prices have fallen more than 50 percent since hitting a record average price of $4.114 in mid-July, according to AAA. Today, the national average price for a gallon of gas today is $1.929. In a recent AMN reader poll, nearly 65 percent said they believe gas prices will continue to lower.

A North American study released today shows that commuters are continuing to check e-mail and text messages on the way to work, in spite of possible safety risks.

The reason for this strong desire to stay connected? The Commuting and Staying Connected omnibus, conducted by Angus Reid Strategies for IMS Inc., found that 32 percent of Americans and 23 percent of Canadians surveyed think that it is important to their work-life balance to have access to text-messaging, phone and e-mail while commuting. Some say they are feeling pressure from their employers. Roughly a quarter of Canadians (24 percent) and a fifth of Americans (21 percent) say they have missed an important e-mail or opted out of a call from work while commuting.
