AIKEN, SC -- A fire in one of three rubber stock mixers Mar. 13 temporarily shut down Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire’s Aiken, S.C., plant. No one was injured, and reports say that there was minimal damage to the facility.

The fire started at around 6:15 p.m. Saturday, according to reports, and eight area fire departments responded. The automated tiremaking facility was immediately evacuated.

The plant, which opened in 1999, primarily produces passenger and light truck/SUV tires for OE customers.
