COLUMBUS, IND --
Gail Farnsley has been named vice president and CIO for Cummins Inc. As the leader of Cummins Information Technology (IT), Farnsley will implement a global IT strategy to drive standard processes, architecture and applications across Cummins. She will also work with business and IT leaders to develop policies and prioritize IT initiatives focused on driving down the cost of day-to-day operations in order to increase the resources available for strategic investments.
"IT is a critical tool for delivering value to the customer, managing a business process cost-effectively or taking a product to new levels of performance," said Mark Gerstle, vice president, Cummins Business and Corporate Services and Quality. "Gail has proven to be an outstanding strategist who can bring the value of IT to our businesses in a disciplined, cost effective and timely manner."
Farnsley joined Cummins Corporate IT in 1997, serving as an internal consultant on IT process improvement and strategy development and working with sales, marketing and distribution on various projects. In November 1999, she assumed leadership of Central Area IT, and in September 2000 added responsibility for Cummins Power Generation IT. She was named chief information executive in 2002 and assumed responsibility for overall IT for Cummins.
Prior to joining the company, Farnsley worked for Georgia-Pacific Corp. for nine years in various technical and management positions. She also held technical roles at Emery Air Freight and Public Service Indiana.
She is a member of Women & Hi Tech, a central Indiana organization that provides networking opportunities and support for women in technical fields; the Society for Information Management, the Columbus Connected Community Partnership Steering Committee and the Dean's Executive Council of Purdue School of Technology. She is vice-president of the Dancer's Studio, Inc. Board of Directors.
