DETROIT --
General Motors announced Monday it will recall more than 2 million vehicles because of safety defects.
The recall applies mostly to cars and trucks GM sold in the United States, the company said.
Some sport utility vehicles and pick-up trucks from the 2003 to 2005 model years are believed to have problems with seat belts in the second row, GM said.
Models under recall include Chevrolet Suburban, Chevrolet Tahoe, Hummer H2, Cadillac Escalade, GMC Yukon, GMC Yukon XL, and crew cab versions of the Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra.
The company says no injuries have been reported as a result of ill-fitting seat belts, but it is nonetheless conducting the recall voluntarily.
"Recalling these vehicles to provide improved routing of the lap belt is an important precautionary measure," said the company's director of structure and safety integration, Bob Lange.
