WASHINGTON, DC --
Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC), and Hillary Clinton (D-NY), announced last week the formation of a bi-partisan Senate Manufacturing Caucus directed at addressing problems facing the U.S. manufacturing industry.
"For generations, our manufacturing sector has been the backbone of the American economy," Clinton said. "That bedrock strength is being eroded and we cannot afford as a country to sit back while our manufacturing capability slips away."
"It's now time for Republicans and Democrats to join together to protect American manufacturing jobs and take steps to create a better business environment," Graham said.
Citing the fact that American manufacturers have lost an estimated three million jobs since April 2000, the caucus plans to ascertain the causes of problems in the nation's manufacturing sector and search for opportunities for congressional action to boost and maintain the number of jobs in the manufacturing industry. The caucus proposes to hold hearings and roundtable discussions in Washington and around the country to address concerns of the U.S. manufacturers including global and domestic trade practices.
