WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Sens. George Voinovich (R-OH) and Evan Bayh (D-IN) introduced the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Act in the Senate yesterday.
The bill has bipartisan support, and the Motor and Equipment Manufacturers Association (MEMA) has joined with other groups in working with Senate staff on the bill. The measure makes improvements to the current structure for intellectual property (IP) enforcement in federal enforcement.
Other key provisions of the Intellectual Property Rights Enforcement Act are:
- Creation of one organized force to combat IP theft, and including for the first time, the Department of Treasury’s Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence;
- Establishment of an international task force of foreign countries to track and identify IP criminals;
- Incentives for reliable trading partners to join the task force;
- Required reports to Congress to ensure cooperation and to measure progress
