SAN FRANCISCO -- General Motors Corp. said Thursday a U.S. district court in Detroit has granted preliminary approval of the healthcare settlement agreement between GM, the United Auto Workers union and the class representatives. GM announced the tentative agreement with the UAW to modify the hourly retiree healthcare plan on Oct. 17 and the deal was ratified by UAW members on Nov. 11. A fairness hearing has been scheduled to begin on March 6.
