DETROIT -- The SAE Foundation's $20 million Centennial Campaign -- Inspiring A New Generation -- recently received three campaign pledges totaling $975,000. International Truck and Engine Corp. pledged $375,000; AVL pledged $350,000; and ArvinMeritor pledged $250,000. All three pledges were in support of SAE's “A World in Motion” program, a math and science curriculum for students in grades four through 10.

"The SAE Foundation is incredibly fortunate to have the support of leading companies such as International Truck, ArvinMeritor and AVL," said Daniel Hancock, chairman, SAE Foundation board of directors. "During tough economic times, corporations across industries ranging from automotive to aerospace and off-road have stepped up to the plate to ensure the future of SAE's many outstanding educational programs that engage students from grade school to graduate school. With their support and by working together, we will positively impact the future of engineering."

The “Inspiring a New Generation” campaign was created to build upon the success of the SAE Foundation's educational outreach efforts by enhancing communication, expanding opportunities and building partnerships. Funds raised through the campaign will be used to create new curricula for SAE's “A World in Motion” program, expand and enhance competitions in the SAE Collegiate Design Series, develop innovative methods for engaging students through the use of technology, and establish scholarships to enable future engineers to pursue their education.

Only seven months since its launch, the campaign to date has raised more than $9 million in pledges.
