WASHINGTON, DC --
The Congressional Subcommittee on Commerce, Trade, and Consumer Protection has scheduled a hearing on Wednesday, May 17 at the Rayburn House Office Building. The hearing will focus on H.R. 2048, The Motor Vehicle Owners' Right to Repair Act of 2005. Witnesses will be by invitation only. The Right to Repair Act, which was originally introduced by Reps. Joe Barton, (R-TX), Edolphus Towns, (D-NY) and Darrel Issa (R-CA), would require the car companies to make the same service information and tools capabilities available to independents service providers that they make available to their franchised dealer networks. So far, congressional support for the Right to Repair Act has reached more than 100 sponsors.
Testifying on behalf of the Coalition for Automotive Repair Equality (CARE) will be Nancie Marzulla, partner, Marzulla & Marzulla, CARE’s counsel and expert on intellectual property issues. Aaron Lowe, vice president, government affairs for the Automotive Aftermarket Industry Association, will also be testifying in support of the automotive aftermarket.
