House Committee Passes Tire Fuel Efficiency Bill
June 22, 2006
|

From Staff & Wire Reports

WASHINGTON, DC -- The House Energy and Commerce Committee has passed a bill that would establish a national tire fuel efficiency consumer information program as well as a rating system.

The bill was one of five energy conservation initiatives that were passed by the House. It would establish a tire fuel efficiency rating system and a national consumer education program on tire maintenance. The program would be administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

An amendment to the bill, sponsored by Rep. Anna Eshoo (D-CA), also passed and would prevent the national program from pre-empting the California replacement tire fuel efficiency law passed in 2003.
