BETHESDA, MD The Car Care Council Women’s Board (WB) announced the success of its 2007 summer meeting, held June 6-7 at the Vancouver Marriott Pinnacle Downtown in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. With more than 30 attendees registered, the WB welcomed a record seven new members to the meeting.
More than 70 members strong, the Car Care Council Women’s Board is comprised of professional women and men, including company executives, service shop owners, service writers, motor sports figures, association executives and consultants, who are dedicated to informing female audiences about proper vehicle maintenance and safety, while encouraging young people to investigate automotive career choices.
“I was thrilled to see so many new faces mixed with our board veterans in Vancouver,” said WB president Katie Noga, SKF Vehicle Service Market. “With the input of our members and attendees, the board is poised for 2007 with a tremendous list of ambitious goals and initiatives to get even more women and young people involved in the automotive aftermarket, and reach out to female consumers to help them become better vehicle maintainers.”
The day-and-a-half agenda featured a look inside the 1-800-Charity Cars Campaign in Canada with an update from Eastern Automotive Warehousing’s David Vaughan. Becky Vierck of Re-Born Automotive discussed the Association of Women in Automotive in Portland, OR, and brainstormed partnering opportunities with the WB. Nancy Andersen of Affinia Under Vehicle Group walked attendees through her career path as a woman in the aftermarket, and AAIA’s Jennifer Ortiz presented an update on the “Be Car Care Aware” campaign and National Car Care Month 2007. Jody DeVere of AskPatty.com walked attendees through her website, which features automotive advice for women, and Patty Kettles of AIA Canada rounded out the agenda with a primmer on the aftermarket in Canada.
Following the presentations, the group broke into the WB’s five standing committees, which include the Scholarship, Consumer Education, Recruitment and New Members, Industry Relations and Membership and Special Programs. Presentation of committee goals at the conclusion of the meeting featured completed comprehensive bylaws, the selection and announcement of the 2007 WB scholarship winners and information on the WB’s second Women’s Automotive Career Day, to be held at the Dover International Speedway in September. The group also announced updates and improvements to the 2007 Automotive Communications Awards program, initiatives for wider distribution of the Car Care Council’s Car Care Guides and new member recruitment programs and goals.
The WB winter 2008 meeting will be held in January at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL. More information will be available soon at http://women.carcare.org. All members and non-members are welcome.
