Goodson Shop Supplies will be hosting technical presentations on engine balancing, wet flow testing and shop profitability on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 8 am-4 pm.
The first presentation, “Engine Balancing Equals Profits” will begin at 9 am and will be presented by Randy Neal from Cast Welding Technology. Neal will provide a technical presentation on the application of engine balancing related to other rotating devices. Specific discussions will include: different types of balancing, crankshaft design, internal vs. external balancing, camshaft balancing, correct procedures for weighing components, bob-weight types, over balance vs. conventional formulas and, relating balancing applications and revenues. Neal has more than 30 years of experience in the industry and is considered a leading expert in understanding shop profitability. Neal will have a demo truck on hand for live demonstrations. There will also be a V-8 bob-weight giveaway, a $1,200 value.
“Wet Flow Testing - An In-Depth Look,” will be presented by Darin Morgan of Reher-Morrison Racing Engines and Joe Mondello of Mondello Technical School. Morgan has been porting engines for more than 20 years. He started in Pro Stock in 1990 and his clientele is a virtual “who's who” of professional motorsports. His heads and intake manifolds have contributed to records and wins in NASCAR, truck, tractor pulling and many NHRA drag racing classes.
Mondello has been building racing heads and engines for more than 50 years. Since 1996 Mondello has been sharing his trade secrets through classes at Mondello Technical School, now located in Crossville, TN.
A representative of AERA will make a presentation on new profit calculation software developed by a shop owner who wanted to know the financial condition of his business. This easy-to-use program asks simple questions that can be answered from check register and work order receipts. After you leave the presentation, you should have a better grasp on your shop's profitability and what you can do to improve your financial situation. Everyone attending will receive a copy of the software to use for 90 days at no charge. Details will be available at the seminar on how to extend use of the program beyond the initial free trial.
