LONG BOAT KEY, FL -- Bert L. Dorman, 79, a longtime automotive aftermarket leader, passed away Jan. 21 at his home in Long Boat Key, FL.
Dorman had a long and distinguished career at Dorman Products, and was the last family member involved in the company founded in 1918.
He retired from Dorman Products in December 1993 after more than 30 years of service. He frequently stated, “I have been part of the Dorman Products family for my entire lifetime, both literally and figuratively.”
Dorman was very active in the aftermarket industry, serving many years as a member of the Automotive Sales Council.
Friends and colleagues recall him as a hard charging sales manager, with a heart of gold and a booming deep voice, developed on the radio during his college years. His voice was featured on the “on-hold” message at Dorman for many years, even after his retirement.
A devoted husband and father, he is survived by his wife, Marlyn, and two daughters. He was a Mason for 57 years.
