Phoenix Systems Unveils New Brake Fluid Test Strips

BICKNELL, Utah -- Phoenix Systems, developer of brake bleeding tools, has introduced its new BrakeStrip brake fluid test strips with patented FASCAR (Fluid Analysis by Stimulation of Copper Alpha Reactions) technology. BrakeStrip meets the established guidelines developed by the Motorist Assurance Program (MAP) for testing brake fluid.

Many technicians use a variety of test methods to determine if brake fluid needs to be replaced. To minimize confusion, MAP developed a uniform service standard based upon best automotive practices and procedures. After a review of current available technology, MAP determined that only a copper test provides the best possible standard to measure the condition of brake fluid. A copper test is more accurate at detecting corrosion, and is the initial, primary contaminate of brake fluid.

To help protect brake systems from corrosion, brake fluid is manufactured with corrosion inhibitors that over time can become depleted. When this occurs, copper levels increase and are present in the fluid. BrakeStrips with FASCAR technology are a reliable and accurate test for copper ions in brake fluid.

BrakeStrip is designed to react quickly to the concentration of copper ions and turn color in accordance to the level of copper in the brake fluid. This color shift is very exact, and is based upon the level of copper in the fluid. A deep purple indicates 200 ppm. This is the level of copper in brake fluid that MAP has set as the standard for automotive technicians to recommend a brake fluid flush.

BrakeStrips are ideal for both brake professionals and do-it-yourselfers, according to Phoenix Systems. Simply remove from the package, dip it into the brake fluid and in a minute or less the visual results can be compared to the provided color code. After a brake fluid flush is performed, a second BrakeStrip test can prove that the service was properly performed.

Jon Petty, founder of Phoenix Systems and inventor of FASCAR technology, commented, “Our ultimate concern at Phoenix Systems is to provide helpful innovative tools that provide the best possible standard of service. This simple, inexpensive test can be used to ensure the safety and longevity of a brake system. We’re very proud to have the only test that meets MAP guidelines for testing brake fluid. It took a lot of R&D to develop a test that would give consistent, reliable results. At Phoenix we’re known for taking an unconventional approach to product development, however the end result is typically a better product than anything else on the market."
