DETROIT — A new event promoting automotive careers will be added next year to the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS), which takes place on Jan. 15-23, 2005, in Detroit.

Thousands of students will converge upon the 2005 NAIAS for the first annual Automotive Education Day on Wednesday, Jan. 19 from 9-3 p.m. at the Detroit Cobo Center. The event is designed to provide southeast Michigan and Windsor-area students in grades 7-12 with an exciting and educational automotive career curriculum, presented by knowledgeable industry professionals.

“This is an exceptional opportunity for young students to explore the variety of career paths available in the automotive industry,” said Bill Cook, NAIAS 2005 senior co-chairman. “Many students believe engineering is the only option for an automotive career. This event will expose them to many other types of careers, including finance, interior design, marketing, legal and even robotics.”

Participating NAIAS exhibitors will conduct 10-15 minute presentations at their respective exhibits or at the Michigan Hall stage. Exhibitors will discuss a variety of industry topics, some of which include automotive design, graphic design, automotive technology and environmental impact. Thousands of students are expected to participate throughout the day following an itinerary similar to a press conference schedule. Students will have an opportunity to ask questions and gather informative information on careers in the automotive industry.
